Professional Development

Teachers may register for professional development credit for attending sessions during the residency through the St. Lawrence-Lewis County BOCES. Teachers may earn 3 hours of credit and this session will count towards English Language Learners and CTLE credit hours. Sessions available for professional development are held on Monday, September 25th.

  • Honoring the Ear – Dr. Constance McKoy, 9:00 – 10:00, Hosmer Hall

    This presentation will focus on aural learning as a critical facet of music instruction. Participants will explore how aural learning can be used effectively in understanding culturally diverse facets of musicianship and literacy.


  • Teacher Identity and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy – Dr. Jacqueline Kelly-McHale, 10:00-11:00, Hosmer Hall

    Teachers may teach in schools or communities which are culturally different from those they attended. This session explores how teachers can develop cultural competence and understand culturally different learners.


  • Responsible Content Selection – Dr. Constance McKoy, 11:00-12:00, Hosmer Hall

    Culturally responsive teachers recognize that culture informs the learning process. This session’s focus is selecting curricular content that acknowledge the ethnic and cultural diversity of a school or class.
